Riverboats

Our riverboat tours employ classic Amazon riverboats for exploring the Amazon and Rio Negro Rivers of Brazil. Travelers will explore a variety of ecosystems looking for wildlife and exotic plants, and doing lots of trekking and canoeing side trips along the way. Riverboats are complete with hammocks (or day-beds), bathroom, shower, captain, cook, English speaking/professional guide, all food and drink (except alcohol), camping and fishing equipment etc. Riverboat tours of one to seven days will explore the Amazon and Rio Negro Rivers, and the Anavilhanas Archipelago. Our 11 day all-inclusive riverboat package Called The Riverboat Plus (see ADVENTURES link) features Jau National Park on the Middle Rio Negro River. And our 15 day all-inclusive packages, The Rio Branco, feature these locations on the Middle Negro River as final destinations.

HOUSEBOAT

In May of 2002 Swallows and Amazons began operating tours aboard a 6 cabin air-conditioned houseboat named the Dona Tania. A 7 day all-inclusive tour package called The Houseboat is offered twice a month (starting the 1st and 4th Sundays), and an 11 day all-inclusive tour package called The Houseboat Plus runs once a month (starting the 2nd Sunday). These more comfortable adventure tours feature the same river & rainforest programs as our classic riverboat tours PLUS all meals, beverages (except alcohol and canned sodas from the bar), accommodations in air-conditioned double cabins, 2 nights accommodations in Manaus city at the Best Western Hotel, airport transfers IN/OUT, a day with guided/driven city tour, and 1 dinner in Manaus.
The 7 Day Houseboat (1st and 4th Sundays of the month)...Days 1-3 Amazon River, Days 4-6 Rio Negro River, Day 7 Manaus City Tour and Dinner.
The 11 Day Houseboat Plus (2nd Sunday of the month)... Days 1 to 3 Amazon River, Days 4-10 Rio Negro River, Day 11 Manaus City Tour and Dinner.
The 7 day program can actually be broken down into a 3 day Amazon River tour (Sunday-Tuesday) + 3 day Rio Negro River tour (Wednesday-Friday), and the 11 day program into a 3 day Amazon River tour (Sunday-Tuesday) + 7 day Rio Negro River tour (Wednesday-Tuesday). Clients are welcome to sign on for these shorter houseboat tours

Exact destinations visited vary month to month with the rise and fall of the rivers. Anybody wishing a tour shorter than 6 days is advised do one of our classic Riverboat tours on whatever dates they wish, or they can try and match up dates for one of the 3 day Rio Negro or Amazon River segments of the longer Houseboat tours. All our tours are guaranteed with 2 persons minimum.
Note: Varig Airlines between Miami and Manaus is perfect for American travelers doing 7 day packages (arrival and departure in Manaus on Saturdays). 11 day tours may start with the Saturdy arrival from Miami but will have to end with a homeward flight via Sao Paulo. From Sao Paulo and other Brazilian cities there are daily flights to/from Manaus for classic Riverboat tours but travelers specifically interested in the 7 or 11 day Houseboat should coordinate with Varig's Saturdy arrival whenever possible AND whether or not they are planning additional travel in Brazil before or after an Amazon tour. Aeropostal, TAM and Lloyd Aero Boliviano airlines also fly between Miami and Manaus.
